Ideas to fill the big white space

I am fed up of looking at the big white nothingness above the TV in my front room. I have a huge ancient world decal and framed prints on the opposite wall and a massive mirror on the wall opposite the window. Oak flooring and oak shutters, deep red sofa, oatmeal easy chair and a lifetime's supply of tut bits and bobs picked up on travels and at charity shops. Minimal I am not.

I am stumped for ideas so want to throw it open to the creative minds here. What can I put in this space? Thanks in anticipation Grin

What about a wooden rustic shelf that you have some photos/trinkets?

I am not sure I like tall pieces of furniture each side of the tv. They are creating the hole. Could you move them elsewhere and create cupboards below the tv for storage? It would make the room look bigger. I like the idea of the shelf too. This could display pictures or more of your personal collection which is decorative.

@catwithwhiskers didn't think of a shelf!

@BubblesBuddy my front room is just 8' x 10' into a small bay so snug sized and there is nowhere else to put the bookcases but I do get what you mean about the hole being created by their position. I am going to have a look for a rustic shelf and take it from there.

Thank you both!

I do get that you need storage for books etc but how about under the tv? I think the pair of tall bookcases looks overbearing in a small room. Hope the shelf works for you.
