What to do with this threshold strip

We recently had our hallway re-tiled, and we kept the threshold strip between the hallway and lounge unchanged.

I regret this now, and wish I'd had it replaced with a metal strip. To to this now would require redoing some of the tiles so they extend further into the doorway.

To avoid this work, I wonder whether I can paint/stain/replace the existing threshold strip.

Any suggestions?

The existing one looks dated to me, and is probably the original strip from when the house was bulit in the late 60s.

Thanks.

You could probably paint it, but I think it looks nice as it is. And I love your tiles!

Can't you just get metal threshold bars that fit?

Rupster · 13/05/2020 17:47

It's 7.2cm wide, so too wide to replace with a metal one. (Metal ones don't seem to come that wide).

Yes , you can buy made to measure ones online......lots of companies do them.........

I love the tiles too, and I think the threshold looks fine as it is. I wouldn't paint it, as it will chip. You could get a metal one made but my advice would be to do nothing at all with it, and then see if it still bothers you in a couple of months time.

Give it a good scrub then stain it the same colour as your door frame.
I think the wide wooden thresholds are classier than the metal ones threshold snob

It's fine, I think lockdown means you are over thinking it!

Update: I decided to get a metal threshold bar fitted in the end. I had to get the tiler back to cut and fit some some more tiles, but I'm happy with the result :-)

Reading this thread for the first time tonight, I was going to say it looked fine as it was.

Now I see your update, you were right, OP. It really does make a difference. Looks great!
