Bedrooms for adult children

This year I need to turn my attention to my sons bedrooms. they are now both in their 20's and left home after they graduated but their bedrooms are frozen in time at age 18 and even if they are just for them when they come home for the odd visit they do need to be redecorated.
We live in a 4 bedroomed 90's built house and have 2 doubles which are our room and the spare. DS1 has a smaller double/large single which I use informally as a sewing room and DS2 has a single room. No serious girl friends at present, though if and when they can have the spare room. DS1 comes "home" for a few weekends a year, plus Easter and Christmas. DS2 slightly less often. they both live in rented flats in London and we tend to visit them more now (not CV times) than they visit us. I was thinking of just painting the rooms in neutral tones, buying new chests of drawers and chairs and having linen curtains and bed linen. If we move ( undecided) at least that way the rooms will look presentable for the purchasers. I know they would both prefer to have double beds but the existing beds are good quality (Warren Evans) and have been very little used, so I can't justify that, it would be a bit of a squeeze in the smaller room anyway. What do you think?

This is still a long way off for us but I think when the time comes I will do what my mum did with my room- decorate in neutral tones in the same way as I would a spare bedroom. I remember my mum asked for my input when picking bedding and curtains so it still felt like ‘my’ room, but I was only 18 and had just moved out for uni (and was very sentimental!) so I think she knew it was important for me to still feel involved which might not be important for your sons as they are older.

Does the spare room have a double in it? I think I would probably want to make sure there was enough room for a future scenario where they both have girlfriends and might all be staying at the same time for Christmas or similar. If the current beds are good quality though I wouldn’t be in a great rush to replace them

yes, spare room has double bed and an ensuite shower room, so great for visitors, so i will probably go with just neutral and stylish.
