Has anyone used those stretch sofa covers?

We have a very good two seater sofa which our cat has damaged through scratching, plus the fabric on the arms is a bit worn. I was going to buy a huge cotton throw to cover it, but I've also seen those stretch covers which would cost around the same and be easier to cover the whole thing with. Has anyone tried these and what has your experience been? The sofa isn't used much and is in a bedroom.

Sorry no advice, but been looking at these too for updating a cheap sofa (extreme vomit baby may be followed up by another). There are some fab patterns!

Widowodiw · 25/04/2020 19:41

No but I think they look fab and saves people buying new.

Not soffa, but dining room chairs. The chairs were (cheap, thin) leather and ended up badly cracked. We bought stretch covers and they look good.

Try it, it's cheaper than buying new

That's what I'm thinking. I found one company online that does covers for IKEA sofas - I think our sofa is very similar to one model so I'm going to compare the measurements.

I used them when the DC were babies/toddlers and accident-prone. They didn't look quite as nice as "proper" sofa upholstery, but were so easy to sling in the machine when someone threw up or tipped something on them!

perniciousdot · 25/04/2020 22:02

We had them once, years ago, and they were awful. I got pissed off constantly having to tuck them in so we ended up ditching them. It was a king time ago though, maybe quality has improved:

MrsPerks · 25/04/2020 22:05

Where are you finding them my sofa has been ruined by the cat?

dontblameme · 25/04/2020 22:17

Yes I have them on sofa and armchair and they're great! Easy to wash and fit.

wowfudge · 26/04/2020 09:01

@MrsPerks - on my FB feed, but they are widely sold online and on Amazon And eBay. I'm going to go for it.

I had on my old sofa. They never stayed in place, but it did say they were for loose cushion sofa's and mine had fixed cushions. It stopped the sofa shedding all over the place, so worked for what we wanted.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 26/04/2020 09:15

Yes, for an old cream ikea sofa. Looks like new now and gives me pleasure ever time I look at it.

IWasThereToo · 26/04/2020 09:17

Can anyone show a link to their good one?!

Rockbird · 26/04/2020 09:19

I've been looking at these too. Have a battered fixed cushion leather sofa and desperately want to change it but not if it looks crap.

AgathaX · 26/04/2020 09:22

Where did your dining chair covers come from user?

whatdoyoudonow · 26/04/2020 09:32

Isn't the stretch fabric really nasty though?!

Lifesbetterwithwine · 26/04/2020 09:40

I bought new covers for an Ikea sofa from this company a couple of years ago. It’s like new again. There are lots of companies that make new covers for Ikea sofas and they will send out fabric samples on request too.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 26/04/2020 09:45

I’ve used Comfort Works too. They’re not cheap, but they’re far from ‘stretch covers’ in the old style. They take a while as they’re made to order but customer service is excellent. Sofa is like new.

wowfudge · 26/04/2020 09:45

That's a lot more than I want to pay though Lifes - different if it's the sofa you sit on every day.

Mine were cheapy cheap from Ebay years ago. Still look good. Just search sofa stretch cover.

Hamiltonfan · 27/04/2020 07:35

We are looking at these too, but our settee back is 2 large cushions, against the hard back of the settee. Would I put the cover over the entire thing, including cushions? I can't find covers for the cushions anywhere x

phyllidia · 27/04/2020 07:55

I bought this which was more expensive than some of the others but has washed well for a couple of years now.

Used to use a throw but the dog used to pull that off multiple times a day doing the 3 turns before you sleep thing. The slipcover stays firm. And I can wash regularly to remove dog smell.

They look fine to me on a modern-style sofa.

DonLewis · 27/04/2020 07:56

Yes and they were shit.

wowfudge · 27/04/2020 08:24

Hamilton there's a company called Maxicovers which sells a duo option with a separate cover for the seat cushions. You can buy from their Amazon shop.

I just want it to look half decent and give it a new lease of life without spending a lot of money. Just need to make a decision as to what to buy.
