Carpet - I don't know where to begin

What should I be looking for when buying carpet? I have no idea where to begin. Have never done it before! I need carpet for my bedroom and walk in wardrobe (it's a cupboard really). Help!

The higher the quality, the more expensive. So 100% wool is expensive but you can get wool and polypropylene mixes which are cheaper or just polypropylene which is cheaper still. The very, very cheap carpets are like a nylon. If you're buying wool, look at the care instructions carefully. In all cases, underlay is recommended also and then there will be the cost of fitting on top.

There are also things like the twist, loop, pile depth etc. Best thing is to go to three carpet outlets with your room size and compare the samples.

Carpets with wool in them are more expensive but last longer and feel nicer. In my experience they also manage stains a lot better.
Whatever you do don't get a very pale carpet or very dark carpet. It will show up everything.
