Help! How can we match paint?!

We have a very long hallway (40ft) and have had a leak halfway down, so we need to repair some paint. The previous owners didn’t leave any of the paint and we tried to fudge it with a similar colour but it’s made it worse!

The paint is discontinued, the Dulux colour match app just brings up lots of grey colours (it’s a cream) and if we have to paint the whole hallway it will be the most enormous job.

Has anyone had success in matching discontinued paint? Thank you.

Could you not add white to the similar colour to lighten it a bit? Test it in an inconspicuous area first.

My DM is brilliant at mixing different colours together to shade match, she has done it for me in a couple of houses, she has even added coffee granules to get the perfect colour before now!

Do they still have the machines in stores that scan a colour in order to colour match? If so you could take the plug socket off and scratch a few flakes of paint off, it tends to collect a bit thicker around sockets. Have to wait until lockdown is over though.

I’m not sitting through this guy but maybe he has some tips?

Thank you!

We called a company locally who have what we think is a match for the original paint - but this is based on a dried out tin in the loft - so we will try a tester of that and see how we get on.

If not we can try your trick of taking a flake to a DIY store, thank you.

I got some colour matched paint from brewers. Wanted a farrow and ball shade, the manager said it’s not the easiest to work with (wet edge and all that malarkey)

Presumably he too the f&b test card and scanned it to come up with the match. So I’m guessing if you took a sample of what’s on the wall now they can do it for you?
