What paint for 200 year old walls?

I know the walls have to be able to breathe but I'm not sure which are the right ones.

I was told in B and Q today that I could use Farrow and Ball estate emulsion, but I wasn't convinced as I thought I had to use lime-wash or something clay based. They also said I could use their own make (valspar?) but again, I wasn't convinced that it would be breathable.

House dates from about 1800 and walls are very thick. I'm going to have a lot of time on my hands over the next few weeks (aren't we all!) so I thought I'd crack on. Only been here 6 months and never lived in an old house before so any advice gratefully received!

Look at earthborn paints.
