Help me find a desk for home office

I’ve been meaning to set up a home office and now will be working from home due to CV so trying to get set up ASAP.

I’d like a real wood desk, solid but modern.

I like this one but it’s on 5 week pre-order:

I also quite like this but not keen on the white colour:

These are at the top end of what I’d like to spend really so about £350 max. Cheaper would be even better but I don’t want it to look cheap.

I need a chair too!

I was planning to set up a home office anyway so want furniture that will last for years and not just through CV.

I like this too but it’s too small:

Doesn’t have to be John Lewis obviously but I have £70 of vouchers so looked there first.

I quite like this actually and it’s cheaper but not sure of quality. Haven’t had anything from Wayfair before:

Hmmmh, depends what you want to use it for really! All bar your 2nd link are, in my opinion, very stylish, but not very practical.

How much space will you need? I’ve got base unit, monitor, printer, some files, a radio and an “out tray” stack on mine - it’s a big old desk but can sometimes feel squashed when I’m working on multiple papers strewn everywhere.

How many hours a day/days of the week will you sit at it? Does it allow you to have a chair that is ergonomically sound. Will you be able to type and see your screen comfortably?

How much storage do you need? None or a great deal?

Apologies for the multiple questions, can you tell I work from home a lot and learned these things the hard way Grin

Measure your available space and get the biggest desk you can. The second link is nice but with all the cubby holes you don't get much actual desk space. My DD has a similar desk from John Lewis called the Loft Desk but that has a pull out shelf so gives plenty of working space.

Also those solid wood desks don't look as stylish when you have the trailing cables, so look for something with cable management if you can, and also make sure that the desks are a decent height. Sometimes the desk drawer is so big your legs are squashed under the desk, even with an adjustable chair.

Have you looked here? There's always a code with a huge discount knocking about.

I have a fairly big room to use (average sized double bedroom probably) that is just going to be my office. I’ve got a sofa bed to put in on one side but then have a whole wall in front of the window where I can put my desk.

I’d like a big one really. Not massive but want space for my laptops plus note book and stationary

At the moment I’d be working full time from it so about 9-5 every day and then if we go back to normal I would be WFH 1-2 days a week

I wouldn’t mind a drawer or a couple of drawers but the desks I’ve looked at have only got one or two small drawers...

We are supposed to have a lockable drawer but I figured I’d get something separately for that

The LaRedoute ones are quite nice too

I would want something I can get delivered next week (carpet to be fitted next week all being well!!)

I mean really a functional desk is more important than it looking modern and cool

I had a really nice big beech desk at my parents’ house when I was a teenager. I’d go for something like that too but I worry what if I had to repurpose the room and then use a smaller room as the study.

Can’t always work on what ifs though...
