Decorating a dingy dining room

Hi all we’re moving into a house that has a dining room which only has a side window and is quite dingy. Long term the house is going to be completely remodelled but short term I want to decorate it in a way that doesn’t make us miserable. Also, we have a somewhat dated black glass table and black chairs (don’t ask, my DH’s purchase before we met!), which we won’t replace until after the remodel is done. Was thinking bright white walls with black and white photos, which would brighten it in the day but could be a bit stark of an evening when you want something softer...any thoughts?

Bright white walls, black and white photos sound great, and I'd add a splash of colour with some flowers, either a plants or cut flowers in vases, and lots of candles for the evenings.

What about a mirror to reflect the light and silver shiny accessories. Maybe a glass lampshade or small chandelier for the main light.

@MrsMoastyToasty yes a mirror on one wall and photos on the other could be good. I’ve got silver candlesticks I can put on the table and maybe silvery curtains would help too.
