Do these curtains look odd?

Our living room curtains are above the radiator and I was getting fed up of tucking them behind on a night or then knocking washing off if I had any on (I sin I know!) so I’ve got shorter but do they look odd? Sad I’m going to get different tie back as these are the old ones and I know they’re too low!

I think that looks fine!
Out of interest.. why is washing on a radiator a sin? Where have I gone wrong!?

@usersouthcoast thank you. I was worried it was making the window look a bit too sloppy/bedroom like. I know a lot of people don’t like washing on radiators as they think it looks scruffy and causes damp but in winter I have no other option! x

Looks better tied back than not, but short curtains don't look good unless they are hanging from inside the recess, with the hem sitting on the sill. Short curtains hanging in mid air always look wrong. That window would surely suit a blind set inside the recess, would look neater and not interfere with the radiator.

@Tilda I would love blinds but it’s such a dark room as it is I worry they would block even more light out 😩

They look fine. But I'm not sure you're not losing heat from the radiator behind them though.

I’d go with a roller blind. They block hardly anything when rolled up. Also in your case the overhang outside the window means there’s not much light coming in the very top of the window anyway. You may find the room feels lighter and more spacious with a roller.

I think it’s fine though it does look a little short when the curtain is closed. In reality I don’t think other people will take much notice.

I think curtain holdbacks or hooks would look better than tie backs though and they’ll be well tucked away to give you maximum light.

A light coloured roller blind make the room much lighter than a dark block of curtain at each side. Venetian blinds also give lots of light and privacy too.

Curtains fitted outside the recess like that need to be longer - they should end between the sill and the radiator. They look as though they've shrunk in the wash!

Im not a fan of short curtains tbh. Also think that tie backs look wrong with them. I'd have a light coloured plain blind and some full length dress curtains at that window.

AnyFucker · 02/02/2020 08:34

That does not look harmonious to me.

Bluntness100 · 02/02/2020 08:37

I'm sorry they look too short to me.
