Island lighting

We are almost half way through building an extension for a new kitchen/diner. I have an island in the middle of my kitchen which is about 2 metres long. We have an induction hob on the left hand side looking iut to the garden and we will need a ceiling extractor over the hob. Originally we wanted three pendants over the island but the symmetry will not work with the extractor I don't think. Would you put a large pendant in the middle or go for one of the three pendants on one bar? Will we need spots on the rest if the kitchen space? We have spots in the dining part which is the extension. TIA.

Presumably the extractor has a light or lights? I think you could end up with quite cluttered sight lines with pendant lighting as well. It really depends what you will use the rest of the island for. A seating area may feel cosier with pendant lighting whereas a prep area needs good task lighting. We have the sink on the island and I originally wanted three pendants lights over it, but decided against it. We have track lighting in the apex instead with the individual lights angled where they are needed.

Depending on size of kitchen it's likely uou will also need spots, as the pendant is unlikely to light the whole room sufficiently.

I'm not sure you've got an issue as such, but it depends on the room size. You can go for one central light, or three pendants but hung together at different heights.

We have spots, and next week are having three pendants installed over the island, as it hopefully will make it cosier. The extractor is however on the wall above the hob,

Symmetry goes out the window. Functionality is what's needed for kitchens, it's an industrial work environment. Work out where your head is going to be when you're prepping/cooking/washing etc, and put lights so your shadow doesn't get in the way.

Add extra lights if you want pretty, but plan them afterwards not as a first thing.

Plan them now but they could be flush to the ceiling but not actual spotlights (I'm not keen on spotlights). This kind of thing:
