DIY reupholsterey - anyone done it?

I've been looking for a class for yonks but nothing suits timewise. I have this basic chair to recover & borrowed a staple gun but think it would be better sewn.

Should I have a go stapling a cover or should I somehow try to make a template & cut & sew?

Any advise appreciated 😁

This is something that needs to be sewn. I can't see how the cushions fix to the chair but you need to replicate what is there already

Thanks. I thought initially I could staple it but can see the stitching means it should be sewn. Now unsure if I should try to hand stitch covers or just send to upholstery guy. I think I know the answer but really wanted to be able to do it myself!

Surely if you made a mess of it yourself you could then send it to be done professionally without being down much but the cost of fabric you used in your first attempt?

Obviously the original has been sewn but there's no law to say you couldn't staple this time round! Depends how expensive / high quality a piece it is though I suppose.

I upholstered this nursing chair, but I do feel like a bit of a fraud using the word 'upholstered' because for the chair, I just used the existing cushions as a template, then cut out the fabric to fit around them and sewed it up. I used a staple gun for the footstool.
If the cushions come off then sewing is best. If they are attached somehow then its hard to say without seeing it.

@sugarbum that's amazing! Love the fabric too. I paid about £120 to have the same style recovered! I'll give it a go - bought very discounted fabric in local linen factory. Will report back if it's a success!

Sadly the only person who sits in it is my mum and she only visits once a year 😂
