Anyone got a inset electric fire place. Do you like it?

Just finalising the plans for a refurb of the downstairs and having an electric fire recessed into a wall is about our only option if we want a fire place in the sitting room. We don't have a fire place here at the moment and the room feels a bit soulless and I never know where to hand the stockings at Christmas. Do you have one? Do you like it? Or is it just a waste of a perfectly good wall? Due to the odd dimensions of the room, you can't put any furniture against this bit of wall.

Hopeful bump
Slightly worried no one has them as they just consider them too ugly or pointless!

My BF has one in his house and it's really ugly. However, it is also very convenient (remote control switch on and off) and kicks out a reasonable amount of heat. I don't like it, but it's definitely a good focal point when it's lit.

I'm not keen on the 'TV' style ones. Some of the more traditionally shaped ones that have a proper mantle can look pretty decent.

Thank you. Seems like we need a re-think
