Kitchen curtains

Is it so wrong to want curtains in my kitchen, it seems they are out of fashion due to them getting greasy and holding cooking smells? Really!! In this age of time saving washing machines tumble dryers etc.
Anyone got curtains in their kitchen? Any thoughts.

I think they look dated too tbh. How about blinds?

I can't settle this argument in my head so we have nothing still after 6 years! DM's curtains annoy me immensely, I don't like MIL's blinds and I hate our undressed window!!

The trouble with blinds for me would be that they would either be fully open therefore still very plain at the window, (plus I would have to clean the windows more) or pulled down.
I have verticles at the moment, but the window looks plain! I need a bit of colour.
Dus to the water pipes being boxed in at the side of the window I can't fit a Roman blind outside the window and don't want one fitted inside as it will block too much light.
Struggling here!

Depends ẃhere the window is and what type of window you have. If I had sash windows or with a bar across somewhere, I like cafe curtains.

What about café tier curtains?

How about a roman blind (or faux roman blind) just for decor with venetian blinds behind for function? Or some people have a sheer roller blind behind.

The problem is where the water pipes are boxed in it would throw the blind out and would then be almost coming down into the sink, whereas with curtains they could be just left open and just be for decoration and a bit of colour

Go for curtains if you like them! Is this a window behind a sink? If you have the length so they just skim the windowsill and then have fixed holdbacks to keep them neat, they shouldn’t get too grubby.

The problem with blinds is that they get greasy then hold the dust. It's much easier to clean grubby curtains than it is to clean greasy blinds!

That's just what I think LBOCS2, can always open the window and give them a bit of fresh air get rid of any cooking smells, quick wash in the washing machine.
Not sure what the big no-no is with curtains just lately, must be just me!

If you plan on washing them I would go for simple unlined ones, not too full as they are mainly for show and they’ll stack back neater if not much fullness.

I don't have curtains in my kitchen but have fond memories of the lovely lemon colour curtains I had in the kitchen of my first flat. They were very light weight, unlined curtains. Lovely and bright.

Just be careful with what the curtains are made of - some shrink badly when washed or in a humid environment like a kitchen. Natural fabrics are worst for this.

I always wash new curtains once before doing a final hemming and/or putting the curtain rail up, so you get the shrinkage out of the way!
