Lava lamps

Hi, does anyone know how safe lava lamps are? Thinking of buying as a Xmas present for my 2 boys aged 9 and 11 years. If so which ones would you recommend?

We bought one for Dd 11 last Christmas from Mathmos who are the company that originally designed them.
Highly recommend them for customer service and lots of choice, not cheap and plasticky either although obviously more expensive than an average Argos buy.
Dd has a rocket design one and it looks lovely.
Safety wise, it does get a bit warm due to the bulb but no more so than a bedside light.
