I've got my first real Christmas tree this year and have no idea what lights to get for it. Please can someone advise 1. How long the string of lights should be or 2. How many lights there should be. There is conflicting advice on the internet! I have a 5ft tree.
Thanks!

For a six foot tree, I think 300 lights are what’s generally advised but obviously you can have loads more or less depends on what you think looks best.

I got my first real tree yesterday it’s 7ft and I used last years lights that went on my 6ft tree and they are 300, to me that looks enough for how I wanted to decorate it.

To properly light a tree you use 150 - 200 lights per foot of tree. It sounds like way too many but once they are on, you can see how much of a difference it makes.

You make sure to wind them into the very centre of the tree was well as the outer branches. Don't just wind round the outer edge and leave the middle unlit.

I went to a Christmas thing recently where there was a tree decorating demo from someone from Gisella Graham. She said when you put the lights on your tree, go in and out, so from the trunk out to the branch tip and then back in again. It gives the tree depth, and you don't see the cable. It has really changed how I will do my tree from now on.
She also said when you hang your decorations to not hang on the tips, but further back on the branch, and to wind the thread around the branch so the dec is secure and hangs where you want it to be.
Hope these tips help Xmas Smile
