*Recent* Zinc Sofa verdicts? Bobbling?

Hi,

I know, I know... this is third DFS Zinc Sofa thread but I'm desperate and really need more recent opinions on how it wears!

I'm in a right pickle - have the John Lewis Bailey Sofa in situ and the DFS Zinc Sofas on order but currently on hold. JL messed up my order back in August, meaning we will have to wait until February for the Sofa bed. I was going to buy Zinc ones as we can have them by Christmas and we have family coming. But I keep reading such mixed reviews about how they wear over time. I'm wondering whether they've changed the fabric as more recent reviews seem better?

If you have a Zinc Sofa, how is it wearing? Is it bobbling? Are the cushions still plump? We would buy the dual wrapped memory foam ones as the man in the shop who helped said he regretted not doing so as they'd gone all flat and wrinkled.

Please share your recent opinions - id be so grateful! My husband is ready to divorce me other my indecisiveness! Grin

I have a zinc sofa, about three years old now. It's not bobbling at all. I didn't get memory foam cushions but wish I had! As mine are indeed going flat. It's still a super comfy sofa though and I'm happy with it.

Leafy2018 · 18/11/2019 07:37

Thanks @MonaChopsis! Did you buy the fabricare stain protection and insurance?

Nope. I have pretty careful kids, and a general no eating in the lounge rule except for pizza and movie night. So far there's been no stains.

Mummyshark2018 · 18/11/2019 18:11

I have a zinc, only had it a few months though but so far so good! I did get the fabric cover.

Austriana · 18/11/2019 23:22

We've washed the covers a couple of times and they come out well!

Leafy2018 · 19/11/2019 04:44

Thanks all. I didn't get the stain protection or cover as it was £300+ and i didn't read good things about it online. But have ordered in charcoal so hopefully ok...!

@Austriana you washed the covers? Bet that was a bit of a heart in mouth moment! What did you wash them on if you don't mind me asking?

And no one has issues with cushions slipping forwards?

So appreciate the replies x

We have it in Real, the French connection one from DFS. About 6 months on it still looks perfect. It's my favourite sofa ever!

Teal* Confused

Just a normal wash I think, obviously no tumble dry. We're not precious with them, the kids clamber all over and inevitably get them a bit mucky so I was grateful we could wash them !

The cushions do move around, you have to put them back into place, but I don't massively notice it.

GreatSoprendo · 21/11/2019 21:16

We have a three seater and a snuggler, both about 2 years old. No bobbling whatsoever and still look great and feel really comfortable. I'm considering getting another!

Hi @Leafy2018, did you go for the Zinc sofas in the end? I think you commented on my thread about them a few weeks ago! I’m still trying to make up my mind but keep coming back to the Zinc and went to have another look in store today. I forgot to ask how much extra the memory foam would be, do you know how much extra it adds to the price?

Leafy2018 · 08/01/2020 11:33

@SunnyAgain so sorry! I only just saw this! No, I cancelled them and stuck to my John Lewis ones. Just waiting for the sofa bed now... I felt as though the quality was better on JL ones if I'm honest. I'm glad I kept them. What did you do?

@Leafy2018 I ordered a Zinc sofa a few days ago, in the sale! I do keep worrying about whether I have made the right decision, but I think I would be doing that no matter what sofa it was. Hopefully once it arrives we’ll be happy with it!

Nonagoninfinity · 08/01/2020 17:34

We've had ours a couple of years now i think and I'm sorry to say that it has bobbled loads. Maybe the newer ones are better but ours is awful and we're still bloody paying for it every month!

SunnyAgain · 09/01/2020 07:30

Oh no @Nonagoninfinity! Which colour is yours?

Nonagoninfinity · 09/01/2020 18:16

It's the blue one Sunny.

SunnyAgain · 14/01/2020 15:13

Aargh @Nonagoninfinity! That’s the colour I’ve ordered (if your blue one is the one described by DFS as teal). Really sorry to hear your sofa isn’t looking good. Have you complained? There seems to be a range of experiences, I hope I will be lucky!

JaniceBattersby · 14/01/2020 15:18

We have Teal Zinc sofas bought nearly four years ago and four very lively kids and the sofas look pretty new. Not a single bobble. We put the covers in the wash and the little arm rest cushions also go in and come out looking great. We also use standard spot stain remover all over them.

We did buy some of that rubber mating stuff to stop the seat cushions sliding off.

I love mine. Would buy them again in a heartbeat.

SunnyAgain · 17/01/2020 18:32

@JaniceBattersby well that’s very good to hear! I am going to stay positive and try not to keep worrying if I’ve made the right decision or not.

SunnyAgain · 18/01/2020 15:34

Sorry another question! @JaniceBattersby and @Austriana, how did you wash the covers, as the buttons prevent the covers of the back cushions and small side cushions from being taken off?

JaniceBattersby · 18/01/2020 16:35

I shove the whole of the side cushion in the washer on a delicate wash and very low spin. Comes out fine. I just spot treat the back cushions. They don’t seem to get very dirty. They wipe down quite well if stuff gets spilt on them (which it does frequently in this house. We’ve had wee, vomit, vimto etc on them.)

SunnyAgain · 19/01/2020 10:53

Yes I suppose spillages will tend to drop down onto the seat cushions rather than get the back cushions dirty. Thank you.
