Garage conversion

We’re looking to convert our integral garage into living space (dining/play room). We’re in a new build, less than 2 years old.

Could anyone advise of rough cost and any potential issues we might encounter? I think we would need to contact the builder to ask permission to change the use but not need planning permission?? It already has power so that shouldn’t be too much of an issue. We’re in Shropshire so hopefully not as expensive as inner city. Thanks in advance.

We did ours back in 2012, if I remember correctly it was around 6k including furnishing it, ours was a bedroom.

We did get planning as we applied for other work at the same time.

We had a step down which we got around by putting extra floor insulation down. Needed insulation on the walls so it did narrow the room slightly more plus extra insulation in attic over new room.

Thanks for replying. I think our walls are already insulated but our floor will need to be raised and insulated. There’s so much to think about.

We had ours done last year. It was a large garage, bigger than a single, but not quite double. It cost around 10k.

Thanks pink. Ours is a single. I was hoping maybe around 8-10k so hopefully my estimate isn’t far off
