Pencil pleat curtains help

I'm so confused about the measurements for pencil pleat curtains in our room Confused. Hopefully someone can help me...

Basically, I measured the width along the curtain rail as about 260cm. I then bought Dunelm curtains with 228cm width but decided when I brought them home that they were too wide. I now have ones with width 168cm. But looking online it seems I was meant to double the width I had. So was 228cm width correct? Or would I need to get made to measure curtains?

Should've stuck with the bigger width, especially as you'll need to pull the strings to make the pleats making them narrower bringing them down to about 150cm each which is perfect for rail size.

Double the width is the traditional way, although I usually go for x1.5 because I like them to look less full. 168 isn’t really wide enough though, I would swap them back for the 228.

Hopefully I can get the ones I originally bought back!
