Decorating living room after a decade - advice needed!

It is many years since we decorated so bit clueless re current trends. Planning to redo living room - will get rid of carpet and put down laminate (can't afford wood). Sofas are grey and will stay. Pondering what colour for walls - aiming for a fresh, cool, breezy look. Walls are cream/magnolia now, which I'm guessing is dated. Is grey still the colour of the moment? Wondering if it would be too grey with the sofas? Any suggested shades I can check out? Thank you!

Have you got Pinterest? I’d start with having a scroll and pinning decor photos that you like then see what kind of colours you are drawn to.

Or I use Instagram hashtags, for instance I like a boho scandi feel so will use #scandilivingroom. Or if I see a colour I like the look of will do the same #farrowandballammonite (for example) and it will bring up thousands of posts.

I love grey and most houses I viewed in past few weeks was grey. I have a family room with grey dark sofas and we have painted light grey.

I'm in the same boat but beginning to think grey is finished already. The magazines are full of fancily named BEIGES and BROWNS Shock

Thank you, all! Pinterest is a good shout. Yes, when I have looked at property websites, grey comes up a lot! Although I don't think I can do beige or brown even if they have fancy pants names!

I have a very light blue for my walls. Only two are painted and two have patterned wallpaper with a geometric pattern of blue, orange, grey and green. My settees are grey too. I think grey is a good
Colour for hallways..... takes the wear. However think it’s too much for the living room.

I think grey has had its day now and especially with grey sofas it might look too “grey”.
We are also in the middle of redecorating our living room after about 9 years and are going very bold with one wall in a dark blue. The other walls will be a light colour and we are also going for oak laminate flooring. I’m scared I’m not going to like it when it’s done but keep telling myself it can always be painted over if need be!

Great is dated. How about green or blue? A mid century mid tone of either?
