If your hallway was this shape what sort of rugs would you have? It's got wooden floors and is a bit draughty.

There is a narrower part 2.5m long then it widens out into a bigger area. 3.25m long.
Do I buy 2 rugs, a square one for the wider part and a runner for the narrower part? Or do I just put a big square rug in the widest part and not bother about the narrower part?

The only furniture in the hall is a sideboard, should the rug go under the sideboard or stop in front of it?

It's a big hallway so the rugs will probably cost a bit and I don't want to get it wrong.

Any suggestions welcome, I'm unexpectedly heading to IKEA tonight with a friend which is a very rare event so I might buy something.

I hardly ever buy big stuff for my house because I have no vision whatsoever.

Quick rug advice please

I don't mean I have no vision, I mean I am not very good at imagining. That wasn't a very good choice of words, sorry.

Would it be odd to buy two rugs and join them together with duck tape underneath. They could then be L shaped like your hall. Stick short side of one to the top of the long side of the other.

I would have two rugs, a runner and a square one in a similar colour coming up to the sideboard, not going under it.
I would go for a marvel mat/ magic mat type thing for the runner which can be machine washed and traps the dirt as people come into the house, and something fluffier and more expensive for the square one. There's no right answer though!
