Paint for a Navy Kitchen

We had a large extension two years ago. We have a navy kitchen with copper accessories. It's currently painted grey. I'm not a huge grey fan 😂

The problem is it's open into our hallway, landing, stairs etc so it's a huge area!

I want it to feel warmer so I'm thinking a cream but not too light. The room is bright in the daytime so it can take colour quite well.

Help!

How about China Clay from Little Greene? It is a pinky cream that I think would look amazing with navy and copper.

We're in the middle of installing a white and navy kitchen.
I've gone for boring old Natural Calico from Dulux on the walls and I'm really pleased with it.
It's slightly warm but not at all yellowish

Love the look of China Clay thanks.

I bought a load of testers yesterday. Cornforth White looks very promising although as it's such a huge area it'll cost a bomb in farrow and ball! I'd have to get it colour matched.

Definitely get it colour matched in dulux matt, not as chalky but it’s a great duplicate.

I really like Pegnoir with navy, it’s a pinky grey so may not be your taste at all, but it’s such an easy neutral to decorate with and is more interesting than off-white.

Baxdream · 01/11/2019 09:27

Oh that is totally my taste! I'd have sulking room pink if it was my choice. We just used it in our bathroom and it's beautiful!

Homebase have farrow and ball on offer plus I have a 15% off voucher so we might be able to get it after all.

I might need to get a sample of that before I decide. Is it darker than cornforth white? I wouldn't want it to look lilac but pinky grey sounds beautiful

Cornforth white is still quite grey in my opinion. It might not give you the change that you're after!

Baxdream · 01/11/2019 10:03

It's so difficult! It definitely is a huge colour difference to our current grey...

Cornforth is the second from the left . Ours is quite a cold blue, maybe it's just a warmer grey?

OP posts:
MustardScreams · 01/11/2019 10:59

I wouldn’t say it’s darker, it depends on the light! But I haven’t seen cornforth on walls so I’m probably not the best to judge Grin

Definitely get a sample of Pegnoir, I think it would look really lovely in your kitchen. It’s just warm enough imo. It’ll work well with the handles.

Baxdream · 01/11/2019 11:55

I've got my final three samples...

Peignoir
Shadow white (Dhs suggestion)
Joas White (live chats suggestion on farrow and ball)

Let's see!

I would colour match to your worktops.
no idea how you get a sample for them to copy though!

NC4this123 · 01/11/2019 12:21

You need Egyptian cotton Dulux 😁 beautiful kitchen!

Baxdream · 01/11/2019 12:36

Egyptian cotton is top right 😂

I actually agree about matching the worktops. It has a slight cream tone and it's always troubled me. I do think changing the paint will fix it!

Iggly · 01/11/2019 12:38

It might be better to paint on a large piece of lining paper then you can put it on different walls and test the colour in different lights

Baxdream · 01/11/2019 12:53

I'm afraid I'm far too lazy for that 😂 the kitchen being right is my top priority , everything else is neutral so it'll be fine

From left peignoir, joas white then shadow white!

I love peignoir 😍, need to see if dh agrees though. If not shadow white. Joas is really yellow!

Hmm, I think the peignor might look a little chilly over a large area (though it does go beautifully with the blue). Personally I like the warm taupe colour (fourth from the right on your most recent pic).

MustardScreams · 01/11/2019 13:12

I really love Pegnoir there. Just a slight pink tinge in your lighting to warm it up. Joas is a definite no!

Xiaoxiong · 01/11/2019 13:16

Our neighbor has a navy kitchen and walls in Setting Plaster, which I guess is going down the same route as Peignoir there but a bit warmer maybe?

footchewer · 01/11/2019 13:44

I'm going to be of no help here as I actually prefer the original grey over all the testers.

But those kitchen units are drop dead gorgeous. Where did they come from?

Do post a picture of the finished result to see if you can change my mind!

Baxdream · 01/11/2019 14:15

We've gone for shadow white!

I adore peignoir but where this goes into our hallway, landing etc shadow white be a lovely neutral. Plus it matches the worktop beautifully!

The grey is a very bluey grey so it's always felt cold.
The rooms coming off the hall are a steel blue and deep rich green.

I'll put a picture up when it's done. Decorator in 2 weeks.
Now to go and collect from 3 stores as I've ordered 11 tins 😱 it's such a huge area I've hopefully over ordered whilst the discount is on at Homebase and b and q!

Kitchen is only howdens! We spent money on worktops and appliances rather than the units

Paint and paper library leather 2 and leather 3 worth a look

Jubilation · 01/11/2019 18:26

I love natural Calico but I've also used a great Dulux colour called Cracked Clay in their mix it for you range. It has a slight peachy hue and is beautiful. Would go great with copper and navy.
