When we have had the whole interior painted white we want new carpeting throughout.
As stairs need most hard-wearing, living room less so and bedrooms least, what one type of carpet do we choose to go everywhere?
And what neutral colour to go with all-white? We have older kids and pets.

It depends on you taste but I would choose a twist carpet and have different underlays. The hall and stairs were usually have a crumb underlay as it's hard wearing and you can go softer in the bedrooms for a different feel.
