Is this a new trend?

I live in a road of Victorian terraces, and 30s houses. There was a small bungalow at the corner in a reasonable plot of land, and that's been demolished, and in its place rises a Lego type square house. It's not finished yet, but under the gutters there are lights - sometimes green, sometimes red, once a rather fetching turquoise, and tonight a sort of apricot. I've only seen this type of decor on a pub. Is this sort of horror "on trend" now?

Must be something round here - just seen another one - this one has blue lights! Maybe they like pretending it's a police station!

It might be for Diwali.

I bought some Phillip's hue light strips for under my kitchen cupboards, they look amazing BTW, and joined the FB Phillip's hue community.
It is full of posts of houses looking like the ones you have seen. And then you should see the interior pics. Some have been used very tastefully (like my cupboards) but people get very carried away with it so it looks like Christmas all year round.
