Help~ DH hates the look of this dining bench, but I love it!

DH thinks it reminds him of an old fashioned and ugly country club. But I love it, from the style to the cost feeling of the material. It's made of PU (faux leather) and apparently it's said to be easier to clean than velvet material.

We want to use a dining bench in the open dining area which is next to the lounge. So it's quite important it's the right thing. I don't like any of those chosen by DH and he really doesn't like this one which I like. The only ones we both like are from Made.com, but I'm determined not to risk buying from ade.com because of all the bad reviews I saw .

Is this bench really that ugly?

Are you having other seating? I like it and wipe clean is practical if you have kids.

Itallt0omuch · 27/10/2019 12:24

Yeah it really is ugly.

Kit30 · 27/10/2019 12:35

Not the prettiest example of a dining bench I've seen tbh (sorry).Leatherette (especially if it's cheap and thin) is likely to peel and crack with use. Are your family really messy eaters? Do you need to wipe down the seats after every meal? Would a removable washable loose cover or just Scotch-guarded upholstery work better? It might seem a silly question but who's going to be using it? It's a real pain to sit on a bench with people taller or shorter than you as their height /arm reach dictates what's comfortable in terms of how far way the table surface is from them. I speak from experience as my parents had a trendy table and bench set when I was a child,. We FOUGHT not to sit on the bench because it was so uncomfortable. As an adult with a tall DH and DSs I won't sit on the same side of the table as them in a restaurant if it means sharing a bench seat. The scars run deep Grin

Very much bot my style at all. I'd keep looking.

TwattingDog · 27/10/2019 12:44

Yuk. Plastic covered seating? In a home - no way. Also, a bench means everyone on it has to sit the same distance from the table, which is awful if you have long legs and a fat belly like me.

FarAwaySheep · 27/10/2019 12:48

Sorry, I don't like it very much. And "easier to clean than velvet" is not much of a recommendation. Practically anything is easier to clean than velvet!

If you both like Made ones, is there any way you could view them IRL to check out the quality for yourselves?

DontCallMeShitley · 27/10/2019 13:01

Is the rest of your stuff 60's/70's style? If not I can see why he wouldn't like it.

I don't like it but that's another matter.

maidenover · 27/10/2019 13:04

I’ve never had any issues with deliveries from made.

Bouledeneige · 27/10/2019 15:14

I don't hate the look (dependent on the other furniture in the room) and I'd really want to check the feel of the fabric (no one wants sticky hot legs when eating) - but I'm not sure I can picture it at a dining table.

I'd be careful to check the height is right for the table and that it doesn't tilt backwards which isn't ideal for dining.

BrexitThroughTheGiftShop · 27/10/2019 15:21

Not nice. Unpleasent color and looks cheap

vegvegveg · 27/10/2019 22:24

Horrid, sorry.

Gemma2019 · 27/10/2019 22:36

It's awful, plus dining benches are horrible to sit at.

GooseFeather · 27/10/2019 22:39

Your DH is right. Sorry.

We have bought from made.com without problem.

luckygreeneyes · 27/10/2019 22:45

He’s right I’m afraid

BackforGood · 27/10/2019 22:49

I'm a bit confused (happens a lot Grin)
Is this instead of dining chairs ?
Why?
It's going to make sitting at the table really uncomfortable.
What happens when someone needs to leave the table before someone else, or sit down later?
What happens if someone wants - or needs - to sit closer or further from the table ?
