Can a daybed work as an ottoman/footstool?

Hi all, I've been asked by a friend who's moving abroad if I'd like her leather daybed. It's lovely but I already have the furniture I need for our living room UNLESS I replace my round ottoman with the daybed. Will it work? Daybed measures 180cm x 90cm x 35cm. It's the same length as the TV unit so there'll be some complementary measurements there but will 90cm be too wide?

What I'm hoping it'll look like:

I don't really understand, do you want to use the day bed in place of a coffee table?

sleepyhead · 26/10/2019 00:20

I think it'll look like you've got a big bed in the middle of your living room unless it's a very large room.

The first picture looks like a bed with some cushions on it to me. The second one not so much but the room looks very cramped.

GrumpyHoonMain · 26/10/2019 00:21

I think it looks nice and is probably more functional than an ottoman when you have people stay over

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 26/10/2019 00:29

I think unless you have an actual show house, I agree with sleepyhead

Sorry I wasn't clear- yes it'd be used as an upholstered ottoman/coffee table. The room is open plan but the dimensions of the area the daybed would be placed in is 370cm x 420cm.

Just tried to upload a photo of what the new set up would look like but I've reached my photo upload limit :/

Your suggestion and the first photo made me think of visiting someone in a hospital bed.

Sorry.

Just, no.

I see what you mean about hospital bed but that just might be a bad photo/setup.

I've attached how I see the daybed setup in our living room. Does it still look bad?

Do you have a picture of the actual daybed?

titnomatani · 27/10/2019 13:21

@GinaCarbonara it's a lovely red leather. I've reached my limit for images again 😡

Not keen on the first two photos but like the second. The style of the ottoman and other furniture is key I think.

For this to work it needs to be sandwiched between two sets of seating or it will look odd. Not sure having a sofa, Otto, then TV will achieve the same look. I quite like it but it looks extremely impractical! Do you have DC's?

titnomatani · 30/10/2019 23:35

Thanks for your input @juiceylu- I'm attaching a photo of the daybed so you get an idea of what it's like. I think it might just work so I'm going to go for it! I'm quite a maximalist in my style so I'm hoping all the other bits and bobs in the room will tie it in!

The first two photos aren't my idea of perfect but they were the only two I could find online to begin with because massive ottomans/daybeds as coffee table replacements clearly aren't the done thing!

Hmm, the pillow/bolster thing does make it look more like a couch than a table/ottoman.

I know it’s tempting when you get offered something for free, but would you have chosen this thing for this space if it wasn’t free?
