How long do you have sofas for?

We bought some furniture from Sofa Workshop (sofa, footstool and chair) about 12 years ago, and although the frames and cushions are still great, the fabric is starting to look a bit shabby - nearly threadbare on the sofa, and very sun-faded.

I did look into just getting them recovered - the sofa and footstool both have removable covers - but the cost of doing so wasn't much less than just buying again from new. Seems a ridiculous waste of money, and one of the reasons we bought from SW was because we wanted to buy something that would last.

So am I just unrealistic - is 12 years a good run?

I've inherited my sofa and chairs - I think they are over 40 years old. I regularly recover them. I think 12 years is a good run if you have a busy family life. I would probably recover if the frame is sturdy enough.

Ours are about 10 years. Also getting faded. Not bad enough to need replacing though.

I think these days 12 years is pretty good, but I'd shop around for new removable covers as the prices vary madly

The last sofa I had was 15 years old. It was still comfortable and in good condition apart from the zips had gone on some of the cushions.

Same here, have a nice SW and JL sofa the covers are actually ok but the fillings are a bit worn and its hard to find anyone to fix them. Have asked several upholsterers and so far no one is interested.
Could you look on ebay for replacement covers?

We've had two sofas since we married, so about 12 years each. Second one starting to look shabby and in need of a new one.

Ours are 17 years old. They are leather and still in not bad condition despite having cats. Ideally I'll keep them until they fall apart.
