Help! How to decorate with these curtains....

Hoping the pic works..... Please help me update our lounge. We have curtains like these that came with the house although much heavier and probably expensive, so we are reluctant to get rid of them as they keep the living room nice and warm!
But I am struggling to think of how to make the decor look a bit more modern.
If anyone can show me pics of your own lounges with similar curtains, I would be so grateful, I really need some ideas Grin

Think they would look good with a deep dark colour eg a dark plum or navy? Don't like them much with white as in the photo.

Thanks! Yes the walls are cream at the moment and it looks so old fashioned. I had been looking at dark reds but love the idea of dark blue or plum..... Off to Pinterest now for some inspiration!

What about a sophisticated pale olive or sage colour. They are quite rich and need something a bit cooler to set them off. Rust goes well with olivey green I find. Or a tealey blue, quite pale (it gets darker when it is up and on the whole room)
I wouldn't use cream or gold or rust colour, as it is too matchy matchy.

If you look at fabrics like "Nina Campbell" for example, on the website, you can often see what a multicoloured fabric which has some of the colours in your curtains but also more colours, would have that would go with the main colours of your exisiting curtains, then choose that for your paint or sofa colour. So for example a chintz with blues creams and reds or greens creams reds..would show the tint of blue or green that might work.

fwiw my sister has curtains like this which came with her house and she has touches of aqua in her living room and light beech oak furniture, pine floor and a big painting with a lot of aqua in it. also a plum sofa on one side and a gold plum and cream sofa on the other. But the aqua pulls it all together. Also a green view.

Her walls are white but it doesn't matter, with all the other colours in the room to stop the curtains taking over, and a lot of bright blues and greys and pinks in the pictures on the walls.

Thanks everyone - lots of food for thought. I agree cream/gold/mustard would be too much.

Have seen lots of photos of dark rooms with gold coloured curtains and lots colours within the room e. g. Cushions etc.

Failing that, I may have to burn them as summertimehere says Grin
