Is there way of having stairs that aren't slippy and noisy without carpets?

In our previous home we started gorgeous solid american walnut floors but trying to keep it clean drove me mad, I could see dust hours after hoovering. We were flooded after that we went with solid wide plank oak much everywhere apart form the kitchen and I loved it. It had scratches, some annoying some felt like adding character.

I like walking barefoot and did not love the tiles in the kitchen at all. Much prefer the wood feel. One of the tiles chipped from something falling on it, and it annoyed me forever.

I am not sure apart from bathrooms do I want tiles anywhere? What do you think as alternative in the kitchen?
I don't want carpets apart form runner for the stairs at most

When we were looking around the sales assistants tend to strongly recommend good quality laminate, as they don't scratch as easy and are more popular now, not only due to cost. Any views on laminate vs solid wood vs engineered.

What flooring do you have & love?

I don't get the fuss over laminate , but I know it's very popular.
Have you considered other options like rubber or cork? We had some bright coloured rubber flooring from the colour flooring company in our last place, it was lovely and soft underfoot and easy to clean.
Agree re tile, I can't stand it in the kitchen as it's uncomfortable to stand on for long. We went for click cork flooring from walls and floors which we love.

Not sure about stairs though. We will probably end up with carpet / carpet stair runners just for the noise factor.

I had to google both, click flooring and rubber flooring company! Last time I looked for flooring was 2005, so my limited knowledge is out of date.
