Who is the best tradesman for the job?

So in my front room (terraced house) there is a large chimney breast (chimney not active/bricked up) - with a very large arched alcove. Either side of the breast there are also alcoves, currently with built in cupboards from the floor to about 2 foot high - these house things like electric and gas meters, fuse box, phone line connections for broadband and TV point.

My TV is currently on a TV unit, inside the arched alcove of the chimney breast.
I would like to have an electric stove ( log burner style) put in - but due to large size of arch would need to have the alcove made smaller and I think probably squared off.
I would then need to find another home for the TV - sensible place would be above fireplace - but for aesthetic purposes would want this also recessed in its own alcove.

I would then need all the wires running to the appropriate places.

So my questions are :

  1. Is it possible to have the chimney breast alcove partly filled in but also have an additional alcove made?
  2. What order/whom do I even get to quote/assess for this job - would have thought I’d need a joiner and an electrician but how do I co-ordinate them - if you see what I mean?

Thanks.

You need a carpenter and an electrician. A joiner isn't usually someone who works on site. That's what a carpenter does. Joiners make things for specific projects....usually in a workshop somewhere.

I would find a reputable joiner...someone who has been recommended to you...or read lots of reviews. Then ask them for their recommendations for an electrician. Tradesmen often know people they've worked with on other jobs and then it's easy for them to coordinate together.

I never knew that was the difference between a joiner and a carpenter!
