Small Narrow bedroom decorating ideas please

I’m looking for some inspiration to redecorate my DS bedroom, he’s 10 so looking for something a bit more grown up, ideally would like to get a desk in there but his room is very narrow.
He currently has a single bed in there, this fits under the window with not a cm to spare, it does fit longways but this way gives him a bit more floorspace (he does still like to play with Lego)
We do have a 4x4 and a 1x4 kallax unit (stood up) in there currently.
Any ideas or links greatly appreciated!

Forgot to add that we can’t put a cabin type bed in with a desk underneath as anyway the bed fits blocks part or all of the window meaning there’s no natural light

Pinterest is your friend, lots of small bedroom ideas.
Basically keep it minimalist, blinds instead of curtains...

Try Googling single 'Studybed' on the long wall. Not a cheap solution though.

My 10 year old ds also has a small bedroom. I’m planning to take out his bookcase to make room for a desk, and replace his chest of drawers with a narrow tall boy set of drawers.
Can you put the Kallax unit anywhere else in the house?

My son has a very small room.

We bought this narrow folding desk with a folding chair.

He uses it as bedside table as well as a desk. And when he wants more floor a space we just fold it away and put it under his bed.

We have Ikea stuva it's brilliant because you can change it around. Our door is in a different place though so our bed is lengthways in one side Give us the length of your room

boringisasboringdoes · 29/09/2019 09:47

Sorry is your door coming out of the side or bottom wall? Get some squared paper and draw it out then you can make paper versions of online stuff and move it around. Low tech but it works!

TripleTKA · 29/09/2019 16:51

The door comes from the bottom wall.

I did look at the stuva but the natural light is really poor in his room as it is so that would block it completely,
The folding table might be an idea.

It’s frustrating the life out of me at the moment because he still wants to be able to play sometimes but also wants a grown up bedroom, younger Dd is still in our room so all her bits are in the living room so not much space for a desk there either but we can move the kallax unit into our bedroom that’s currently in his room.

Can you attach a fold down table to the wall?

TheRobinIsBobbingAlong · 29/09/2019 17:02

Does he need to have the desk available all the time OP? If it can be folded away when not in use then consider something like this from Wayfair

desk

TripleTKA · 29/09/2019 17:10

I like the wall desks but we live in a rented house so I don’t want to do too much too the walls, I think some kind of fold up desk somewhere is probably the best option

You need to use as much of the height for storage as you can. Trofast do a tall one unit wide block, do kallax? You may need to get the top boxes down but just keep the less popular stuff up high.

What sort of wardrobe do they have? We have a small double with half rail and half shelves which means you don't need drawers, pants and socks in a box that you can get down off the shelf.

boringisasboringdoes · 29/09/2019 17:25

Sorry if you thought I meant the stuva high sleeper bed.

We have the bed on one side and then combos of the 128 stuva units on the other - which are less imposing than the full height wardrobes so make the room feel bigger plus can have things on top (we have baskets). There are also some on eBay if you want to see them built. Our desk is a small Ikea one with a small set of drawers tucked on one side. By secondary school we found you need a desk more than floor space though I have a dd

Also to decorate we have a dado rail (eek) and wallpaper 2/3 of the way and paint top section which also makes it feel bigger. Depends what your landlord will allow though

RandomMess · 29/09/2019 17:27

You could get a desk where some of it hangs over the bed (where his feet are) so it's a decent size width but not much floor space. You could do this with an Ikea too and legs and just fit them more towards the middle rather than in the corners.

boringisasboringdoes · 29/09/2019 17:34

This way round but sorry I have drawn it too narrow I think ours has enough floor to play and I'm pretty sure it's 6ft wide

We have the linnmon/Alex desk and a skallberg/sporran chair both are lightweight and feel spacious

The kallax desk I saw when looking for the linnmon link might work in front of the window if you move the bed

TripleTKA · 29/09/2019 20:02

Thank you for all these fantastic suggestions, going to have a play about with measurements and see what I can manage but you’ve given me some good ideas.

We don’t have any wardrobes in his room as there’s just no space (my bedroom is massive so we’ve got all the wardrobes in there, plus my DDs bed)
All DS has in his room is the bed & 2 Kallax units, a 4x4 with his tv on and toys in boxes, and 1 1x4 but standing tall with books and games in
