Thoughts on dark decor in bedroom

Our bedroom could do with being painted and I really fancy going dark grey, on all the walls.
It's a south facing room, decent size (4.6m x3.6m) and has 2 good sized windows.

We'd be keeping the furniture which is white and white wood work, so it would just be the walls that would be dark.

We're both shift workers so I think the darker walls would help get a good sleep when we're nights.

DH is swithering but seems to be coming round to the idea.

Other than being a pain to cover up if I change my mind are there any downfalls to the dark side?

I'm generally in favour. What colour is your floor? Presume ceiling is white?

Ceiling will stay white. Carpet is a light silvery/grey colour. Also has fitted mirrored wardrobes to help keep it from being a black hole.

I'm thinking walls will be a dark grey/charcoal

We have deep blueish grey walls, white woodwork, dark wood floors in our bedroom and it looks lovely. My son's walls are in the same colour group but a shade darker again - almost charcoal and I think his is even nicer.

I like a dark bedroom as it makes sleeping better. I don't like grey though....depressing. my new bedroom is going to be dark blue (not navy) with lots of luxury throws and cushions and exotic light fittings. Really cosy.

Just painted living room and hall dark blue and dark green, it's lush. Soothing, calming, makes all the furnishing pop.

Sorry to hijack, LumpySpacedPrincess, you say you’ve painted your living room dark, have you painted it all dark or just one wall? Currently have just one wall dark in our living room & wondering wether I should just take a leap of father & paint it all dark!

LumpySpacedPrincess · 23/09/2019 16:07

I painted the whole lot and it's lush, luffs it!

Are you willing to post a pic Lumpy?

The only thing with dark walls is i fond they mark so easily! But this could be due to cheap paint rather than the colour. I don't know much about paint quality to be fair.

I used a kitchen /bathroom paint and any scuff marks just wipe off with a damp cloth. You're right though Lilly, would be a pain otherwise. I used this one
