Attractive & modern yet childproof fire guard?

Does such a thing exist? Ideas for fire guards which add rather than detract from the room are most welcome - most of the child proof ones seem to be black and clunky.

Not really unfortunately. Black and clunky tends to the fireproof option. There are decorative fire screens but they're not as safe as a full guard really.

We got one of those adjustable lindam stair gate things and fixed on the wall either side. Meant it was easy to lift away after the kids were in bed, but ugly as hell while it's up
