What can I put in this bay window?

It’s sort of extra space in the sitting room and I don’t know what to do with it. I’d ideally like something fairly low so that it doesn’t block any of the light/ view. Everything I’ve put there so far just doesn’t look quite right.

Any suggestions?

A chaise lounge, so you can sit and admire the view or read a book in peace.

A little reading nook - comfy chair, standard lamp and a little table for a cup of tea.

HollowTalk · 05/09/2019 12:37

How wide is the space? What about a love seat?

WhatNowDH · 05/09/2019 12:39

Ooh, I hadn’t thought of a chaise longue. I always feel I should smoke a cigarette from a holder when I sit in them. That could look lovely.

We have a matching room across the hallway where I’ve got a set up exactly as you described lou. No children are allowed in there and it’s the best place ever.

It’s about 2m wide. Off to google love seat.

If you have young children - toy chest and (nice!) play mat

Ottoman/window seat

Love seat

Reading chair (a nice old fashioned wing back would be my vote)

Is get a tradesman in an build a window seat with storage under it.

peachgreen · 05/09/2019 12:51

Seeing as you already have a reading nook, I think I'd have a wee table and two chairs in there for breakfast. A loveseat would be really nice but you'd lose out on the view.

A friend has this love seat - it comes in lots of different colours and I love it.

Wow that's gorgeous! Agree with the suggestion of a built in window seat.

Benjispruce · 07/09/2019 21:25

It’s beautiful. I’d get a carpenter to build you a window seat with storage underneath. We have one and I love it.

eeksville · 07/09/2019 21:33

Wow, what a beautiful view & window. I would go for a built in window seat or chaise longue

FFSDH · 07/09/2019 22:15

I do like the idea of a wooden seat. You can’t really tell from the picture but there’s a trap door there that I’d rather not cover up permanently. The hole that it covers is where I threaten to put the dc if they’re naughty and it’s a useful tool to have in my arsenal.

Perfect for a Christmas tree! (Although admittedly not a permanent solution)

FFSDH · 09/09/2019 09:34

katmunchkin the Christmas tree is one of the main reasons we bought the house. For years I’ve walked past it and they had a beautiful Christmas tree in the window every year. I always wanted to befriend the owners so I could get invited in. I haven’t put anything in the space yet as I don’t want anything that can’t be easily moved for Christmas tree purposes. Although we do have a kitten so our tree will probably look pretty shit.
