Grey paint too lilac!

I’m painting my bedroom and want a pale neutral colour. All furniture is white, except the bed which is a copper metal frame.

What colour shall I do? I wanted grey but it’s coming out pale lilac.
My fallback colour is Dulux timeless.

We’ve just painted our bedroom in Dulux cornflower white. It’s a pale grey/blue. Looks lovely with all our white furniture, though it is a cool, fresh look, and definitely wouldn’t be described as cosy!

Other options are Just Walnut and Rock Salt.

I found timeless too cream.

I used polished pebble throughout my house and in my old house. That's how much I love it lol. Doesn't give a lilac cast or look cream or dirty.

Polished pebble
Grey steel 3
Grey wisp

All 3 looked quite lilac on my wall

It's due to the light in the room and the fact that the greys you've tried all have the same base colour. Have you tried the Dulux Visualiser app? I found that pretty accurate without buying and trying lots of testers. If only I'd known about it before we made an expensive mistake in our living room!

We have polished pebble in a lot of places. Depending on the room (and the time of day) it can be a flat matt pale grey, a bluey-pale-lavender or almost white!

I love it, but if you have a particular shade in mind then it might be too changeable!

There are a couple of massive threads about grey paint being too purple/green etc. What direction does the light come from?

I recommend asking F&B & telling them your other colours & the aspect. I did this for my kitchen & they were so helpful.

We have f&b pavilion grey in our south facing bedroom with PBW above the picture rail. I love it & have had it for 7 years with no thought of changing it. So restful

I've had this exact same battle! The one I liked in the end was Dulux 'Engraved Locket'.
But as previous posters have said it will depend a lot on the light in your room, just keep trying testers.

Jollymollyx · 02/09/2019 09:37

Mine came out the same and I actually love it, it’s a lovely calming and relaxing colour for the bedroom- honestly

cookiemonster5 · 02/09/2019 13:31

What colour are you painting it on to? We liked a few silvers for our kitchen and bathroom and when testing them out one came out looking bright blue. It was because we painted it on top of green (previous tenant had "interesting" decorative tastes lol)

Walls were skimmed and on top of the white base coats it actually was silver.

Dulux Goosewing is a beautiful pale grey. Dont do what I did and ask for Goose Step though Blush

Iwillbemrsminty · 02/09/2019 15:58

Our living room is just walnut 👌 if it helps Grin

Farrow and ball cornforth white never fails for me, i have it in my bedroom, painted on the panelling in my bathroom and in the dogs kennels!

wowfudge · 02/09/2019 18:44

Just Walnut was peach when we tried using it to paint the hall, stairs and landing at our last house.

BogglesGoggles · 02/09/2019 18:46

I would use sulus porcelain doll

BogglesGoggles · 02/09/2019 18:46

Dulux

MoreProseccoNow · 02/09/2019 18:56

After having the same problem, I went for Valspar (B&Q) Modern Grey.

mybrilliantmind · 03/09/2019 17:58

Just Walnut looks quite lilac in my lounge (see pic) but looks a pleasant putty in the hall.

I’ve gone with nutmeg white! Relieved it’s over tbh. Just Walnut was a close second.

My bedroom and lounge are both Chic Shadow. A lovely light grey; not purple at all!

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/09/2019 07:34

We had lots of trouble with greys being lilac too. Went with f&b Manor House grey in the end.
