Will this sofa look ok in this room?

I have been thinking about getting a new sofa since I moved in 6 months ago. Really like this one but literally no one else I show it to does!

I live on my own now after a long relationship so it shouldn’t really matter what anyone else thinks but I guess I just want someone else to say it will look nice.

Doesn’t help that I know I have no creative/design side so I really don’t know if I am being ridiculous in thinking it will look ok.

The third picture is where to sofa is going, the one there now I was given for free which this one is hopefully going to replace.

Help!

Yes, lovely!

kerkyra · 11/08/2019 11:49

I really like it too

Standingonceremony · 11/08/2019 11:51

I like it. I'd look into how to clean it etc with it being velvet though.

Lou573 · 11/08/2019 11:53

Love it - do you have pets or visiting kids though?

Ohyesiam · 11/08/2019 11:59

I think that room would look better with a sofa with more texture. So something more tweedy or nubbled looking, the king of thing that goes with sheepskin or very chunky knit throws.
. I think the flat shiny texture of the one you’ve pictured is gorgeous, but wouldn’t go so well.

NutRoastNancy · 11/08/2019 12:36

Thanks everyone, @Lou573 no pets but children do visit occasionally so I could just chuck a large throw on it when they are here.

@Ohyesiam that is what I am concerned about that it will look out of place. But I definitely want one on feet because the room is quite small I think this makes it look like it takes up less space.

I think it will be the most money I have spent on anything except for my car and house so it just feels like a big decision. Think I will have to think about it some more!

I don't mind the sofa but don't think it's right for that room. It's quite decadent and plush and the room is cosy and homely.

Plus I don't think the grey will look good with the red brick as the colours clash.

Floralnomad · 11/08/2019 12:38

The sofa is lovely but I don’t think it would look right in that room as all that bare brick and rustic wood means something more country / homey style would suit it IYSWIM .

MrsMozartMkII · 11/08/2019 12:39

I like it. I think it'll suit the room if you put some more touches of slightly modern and clean lined items in, with a bias towards the colour of the sofa.

HeadintheiClouds · 11/08/2019 12:39

I don’t, really. They’re two completely different styles.

justthecat · 11/08/2019 12:41

I like it

msmith501 · 11/08/2019 12:48

I think you can better matching furniture tbh

wishingyouluck · 11/08/2019 12:48

I think it will work well, will give it a bit of a different look but in a good way. Love all your plants Smile

Ohyesiam · 11/08/2019 14:10

You are mentioning the anxiety of a big spend, but When I first bought a new sofa I got interest free credit, and paid £10 a month for years, which I was never going to notice coming out of my account, so it felt like a fee sofa. Took the stress out of the choice.

dudsville · 11/08/2019 14:41

Where is that sofa from OP?

Vasya · 11/08/2019 14:45

I love it!

NutRoastNancy · 11/08/2019 15:35

@dudsville it’s from Sofology.

They do one in teal as well which I like more but thought the grey would stand out less in the room, but I think some of you are right, the grey won’t go with the brick, what do you think of the teal one?

@wishingyouluck thanks love my plants!

Definitely the teal - teal and brick red go together nicely. It will also work better with the carpet than the grey sofa.

Ringsender2 · 11/08/2019 16:06

I love it, but I like mid-century modern style, so I'm biased.

Teal will be nice. Once you've got it in place, you might get inspired to update other things in your sitting room, e.g. rug etc

Seeingadistance · 11/08/2019 20:08

Oh, yes, the teal one would look fab!

ViciousTrollop · 11/08/2019 20:09

The teal one is loads better OP.

decisionsindecisions · 16/08/2019 15:54

I have a burnt orange velvet sofa (sounds disgusting but looks nice) and a pewter velvet chair and they are really, really easy to clean. Stains just wipe off with no trouble whatsoever. Go for it OP.
