Painting ikea hemnes furniture?

I won't be doing it myself but is it possible to Annie Sloane this type of furniture? I'm really bored with how dull it looks but can't really afford to replace it?

Any ideas gratefully received!

I painted a whole load of mismatched bedroom furniture in my last house, including an Ikea 4 poster in a dark stain. I know with chalk paint your not supposed to need to prep but I sugar soaked and very lightly sanded first to provide a good surface for the new paint.

It looked great when done. The gifted 1970's orange pine, dark wood modern 4 poster bed and light pine unit's all ended up a unified light cream. I splurged on a few new handles to tie the wardrobe, drawers and bedside unit's together.

I've seen pics of the hemnes daybed painted, in a magazine.
