Just wondeered if anybody else has had problems with paint peeling when painting? And is there a way to avoid it happening?

Our house is a new build and when we painted my daughter’s bedroom the original paint peeled off in places, it was a nightmare. What should have taken a couple of hours ended up taking a whole weekend, trying to fix the mess caused.

We’re about to decorate our lounge and I’m dreading it happening in this room too.

Basically when the builders painted the plaster they didn’t seal the plaster so the emulsion is just sat on the plaster rather than being soaked in. Now when the paint gets wet with new paint, the original peels off.

Wondered if there was maybe something we could coat the original paint with to prevent it from peeling?

Did you water down the 1st coat? As in a really wet paint? The plaster willsoak that. You may need a couple of coats.

We didn’t paint the plaster, the builders did, they mustn’t have watered down the paint for the first coat. It looks like emulsion has probably just been sprayed straight on to plaster.
I have complained to them but as paint and decor isn’t covered in the warranty, they won’t do anything.

Just wondering if there’s anything I can do to prevent the original paint from peeling off when I re-paint it Hmm

Try sanding the layer? Just a light sanding, worth a try
