Help with kitchen island

We decided we would like a island in our kitchen mainly as we have 2 young children so it will be useful for meal times etc.

Our original idea was to knock through to the dining room and after exploring this and getting quotes etc i started to get cold feet. This wont be our forever home and i worried about spending such a significant amount of money doing these renovations.

I looked into adding a peninsula island to the kitchen without knocking the wall down, but my partner isn’t convinced and thinks it will make the kitchen too cramped.

I’ve attached a picture of the floorplan of our kitchen does anyone have a kitchen with similar dimensions/layout & has a island of some sort? Thanks

Looks a bit tight to me. You want 80-100cm around the island. By the time you've got your wall units, 80-100cm, depth of the island (I think this needs to be more than 100cm) and clearance the other side I think you're out of space. Would a pennisula work?

Knock the wall down, the money you spend will likely be recouped in resale and desirability. Families aren't wanting separate kitchen diners these days. It won't be that much more realistically esp if you're thinking new kitchen anyway.
