Any one bought black out roller blinds they are happy with at reasonable price?

Ikea!

TheQueef · 29/06/2019 21:29

Agree Ikea.

Yes they have the length I need but had discounted them as they don't seem to have pull cord. How do you pull them down as we cant reach them to pull them down as windows are very high and not accessible?

Our IKEA.ones are good. They have a little plastic tab in the middle which has a hole in it so you could use a stick with a hook on it to pull them down. You sort of give them a little jerk to get them to stay in place.

My kitchen window is too high for me, as Goggles said I use a metal bbq skewer through the tab if it gets away from me Grin

We got ours from John Lewis, ages ago but very happy with them.

I've used Hillary's blinds and they're very good. Made to measure black out blinds and Venetian blinds as well.

I remember watching the Sandra Bullock film 'The Proposal' and her character flies to Alaska to meet her 'fiance's' family. It's summer so 20-22 hrs of sunlight. She and Ryan Reynolds are in their room, he picks up a remote control and massive blinds slide down in front of all the windows & patio doors. The room goes from broad daylight to total darkness. I'd love some blinds like that but I don't think there's the need in Surrey...

IKEA. Some of ours have a ribbon attached to the plastic to pull them down.

surgery246 · 29/06/2019 22:41

Thanks not keen on the idea of poles in each room and definitely don't want the kids using skewers! John Lewis only appear to do up to 160cm drop at an affordable price tho I will double check. Anyone got any with cord from cheaper retailers that are OK in use?

Just got some from dunelm, got the cord, do the job, lovely selection of colours

SavoyCabbage · 29/06/2019 22:45

Dunelm’s only go to 163cm so maybe that’s a standard depth.

What about Blinds to go?

surgery246 · 29/06/2019 22:58

Yes that is the problem I need longer than 165cm. Ikea size/price is perfect. I could have the ribbon option as made to measure will be expensive. Does the ribbon look odd from outside as in the middle of the window? Blinds to go seem to be 4 times the price of ikea for the same size.
