Paint shade dilemma

Lounge is quite large. Windows north facing. French doors south facing. I have brown leather furniture and a large bath stone fireplace.. Just changed carpets to a greige colour and have a dilemma regarding paint. I've pinned up colour samples around the room. Egyptian Cotton and rum caramel 4. EC seems a bit light and creamy, not much of a contrast with carpet. A bit scared of the rum caramel 4. Like it but is it too dark in the whole room. Would be so grateful for ideas. Current walls Sainsbury's stones is too greedy/ yellow. Want a warm and relaxed classy look. Would love some advice. Many thanks. PS don't want FB.

I would avoid the creams/beige/brown tones on the walls altogether, and choose a bold colour. Stone-coloured carpet, brown sofas, and stone fireplace = an awful lot of neutrals already.
Darker blues seem quite popular at the moment, and look very smart. I'm in the planning stages of painting our living room, and think I might plump for something similar to British racing green.
What do you dislike about F&B? Personally I like their colours, but not the texture of the finished painted wall, the difficulty in touching it up and the number of coats their paint invariably takes. Little Green might be worth a look? Lots of beautiful colours and a better finish Than F&B IMO (although the darker colours still take more coats than Dulux trade).

Thank you for that advice. Yes that's a lot of neutrals but I want something that is rich and contrasting but not as bold as a dark blue. TBH that scares me. The house is large, modern, mostly light and bright. I just want something soothing, warm and restful rather than bold in the lounge. I font want the expense of FB to be honest, and I've always liked and played relatively safe with Dulux. Kitchen diner and dining room are Dusted Moss 3. Thinking of this for hallyway too. These rooms and lounge all in close proximity so light neutrals are pervasive in my house. Just wanting to warm it up a bit but not darken too much. What about bleached lichen 3, supposedly an Elephants Breath equivalent, or dusted moss 2?

How about a dusky pink?

winterisstillcoming · 19/06/2019 21:31

Metallics?

Carpetburns · 19/06/2019 21:32

Natural hessian is really nice. Or for a greyer time, polished pebble is nice.

moreismore · 19/06/2019 21:35

How about a warm grey? Polished pebble is great.

moreismore · 19/06/2019 21:36

Cross post! Natural hessian is another favourite

Duck egg blue, we have dark furniture and flooring the duck egg looks really nice and light, breaks up the brown

Oliack1417 · 19/06/2019 21:49

I've just gone for Velspar Clay figurine.. it's nicer than Egyptian cotton.
For a softer yet boldish blue, dulux denim drift is lovely.

Duck egg for sure.

Sofasurfingsally · 19/06/2019 21:51

@Oliack1417 that is gorgeous.

MairzyDoats · 19/06/2019 21:56

I was just about to suggest denim drift. I agree with the pps who've suggested something with a bit of colour. Cream or beige is just going to look really unimaginative. Soft blue-grey will work well with your dusted moss.

tisonlymoi · 21/06/2019 12:06

Many thanks for the suggestions. They have made me reassess so I am now going to get tester posts for denim drift and ask dulux to colour match FB Blue Green.

Homebase have a fake FB type range called Craig and Rose. The Morris Blue is v nice green blue colour. I've got that and dulux nutmeg in the living room. Copied a friend as I liked hers!

WellTidy · 21/06/2019 12:21

Think of green as a neutral, as you see it in nature. If you don’t want to go dark, a sage green would be lovely. Apple green would be paler.

Furball · 21/06/2019 13:04

@tisonlymoi if you go here and put in what you want it will tell you the nearest match :)
