Paint colour advice for dark rooms please!

We have a large L shaped kitchen with open plan sitting area leading off it. Units are high gloss cream (vanilla to be precise). Worktops are mottled black/brown granite. Flooring is light wood laminate. Doors, skirtings & door frames are light wood. Walls are painted Magnolia - almost identical colour to the walls. It was done 10 years ago & looking rather drab. We can only afford to repaint - so can't change kitchen, worktops or floor. It's quite a dark room, especially the sitting area and part of the kitchen furthest away from window/French doors as they are in middle of house with little natural light.

I'm thinking the only option is another cream/off white colour less yellowy than Magnolia as I think any other colour might be too much in such a large area. However, happy to be convinced otherwise!

Also will want to do hall, stairs & landing which are also in Magnolia hell (3 floors). Also lots of light wood including stair parts and same tendancy to be a bit dark. Thinking same colour as kitchen or a colour that flows from it.

Tia!

Magnolia in the wrong shade can really sap the light. Some of my walls are painted valspars “sleeping inn” colour (B&Q). It’s a very light grey which looks almost white, but just has a bit more depth to the colour. It’s not very grey on my walls (not a massive fan of the trend). Or you could just go white? I’m sure dulux do a light reflecting white which worked quite well in our darker rooms. And as long as the paint is a good quality, it generally wipes clean.

We have dulux timeless in a lot of areas, it’s a very pale cream, less yellow than magnolia and less dirty looking

Could you try Farrow and Ball Pointing? It's an off white. We have it in our north facing cream kitchen.

Or Dulux Apple White but not sure how pale green looks with cream cabinets?

We have Timeless in our kitchen, it's a gorgeous soft white. I'd have it everywhere, it's so lovely.
