Is a free standing bath a nightmare to install??

I've got my heart set on a free standing bath . My father is a builder and has offered to install my suite to help save money . I would love a free standing bath but he said it's a nightmare as you have to hide the pipes under the floor etc . Is it really hard work installing one ?? I could just hire a plumber but no idea if they cost a fortune to do it ? Any ideas if you have done it yourself how did it go or if you employed someone was it's very expensive ?? And do you regret getting one and for what reasons ? Thanks

We had one.

It was lengthways on to the far bathroom wall, with the taps on the outside of the bath. The taps were freestanding with a sort of frame thing around them. If I remember right, those pipes did go under the floorboards.

The overflow pipe was chrome all the way along under the bath until it disappeared under a floorboard, but by then it was quite close to the outside wall.

The plumber didn't seem to have any particular issues putting it all in.

The only thing I'd say is, go and try some out. Sit and lie in them. Mine was huge and I'd often end up lost in it.

It will depend upon where the bath anthem the pipe work are located. If the waste pipe has to run across the joists then it may have to be above the floor as cutting them will weaken it too much.

We have one. For us the problem was the weight on the ceiling otherwise it didn’t seem particularly challenging. It means we could position it where we wanted to see out over the Downs.

Fab thanks everyone ! Very tempted to order it this week 😀 we have an 80 style bathroom suite with massive gold diamond cut taps at the moment that came with the house we bought three years ago and I'm beyond sick of the sight of it !!!!

Isn’t gold coming back into fashion for bathroom fittings? It has been for a couple of years, I thought.
