Agh question for people who've had curtains made specifically!

So, we are having curtains made for bedroom. We have fairly large windows, terrace house, a bay and one single. Decided on curtains that fall just below the window (have black out blinds too). Now, I'm wondering if I did the wrong thing and want the curtains to fall to the floor.

The fabric has been ordered. Assuming I accept some wastage, it's not too late to change mind, is it?

Not too late till they've been cut. And yes, long are better.

DramaAlpaca · 09/06/2019 12:44

Change to full length if you can, they look better.

PCohle · 09/06/2019 12:46

The only way to find out is to ask. They may have to totally recut the fabric though to avoid having to add an obvious seam.

I agree that longer are better though.

Floor lengthy definitely.

Why floor length? Curtains are to go over the window. I have both in my lounge - old curtains that came from my grandmother. I much prefer the 'correct' length ones. The others just look too long for the window. (But not so bothered I'll ever shorten them!)

Jappydooda · 11/06/2019 14:09

Where is your radiator?

If you have them long, then you are going to have to a)tuck them up to keep the radiator clear or b) let all the heat go behind the curtains and not in the room.

I would go for shorter ones if over windows above radiators and long ones if no radiator.

Lllot5 · 11/06/2019 14:11

Will you close them or use your blinds? Depending when you ordered them it may not be too late to change size but don’t hang about.

Sexnotgender · 11/06/2019 14:13

Definitely to the floor. We have one set of window length curtains and they look odd.

slimmerwinner · 11/06/2019 14:26

@user1474894224 "correct" length? Yuck. So 90s.

Definitely floor length OP, unless there is a radiator sitting under the window, then I'd just have shutters.

user1474894224 · 11/06/2019 15:00

@slimmerwinner no doubt correct length will be fashionable again before I change them! 😂

poopypants · 11/06/2019 17:49

Depends on how big the windows are. If they are short, then you are probably better off with a Roman blind or shutters. If the windows are 3/4 to the floor then definitely full length.

MrsMozartMkII · 11/06/2019 17:50

Long!

Hollowvictory · 11/06/2019 17:51

Floor length unless you have a protruding window sill on which case to the sill.

Hollowvictory · 11/06/2019 17:53

For smaller or odd shaped windows I've had roman blinds or plantation shutters made

SnuggyBuggy · 11/06/2019 17:54

We have radiators under all our windows so floor length isn't right for everyone

Hollowvictory · 11/06/2019 17:56

I really do t like radiators under windows, that's one of the reasons. They're unattractive and interfere with curtains

Thelowquietsea · 11/06/2019 19:04

Ok, so an update: Floor length. Not a problem to do, more cost. I won't notice a seam or anything. One window (small) has a radiator underneath, but its next to a wall, so we'll have one curtain that pushes back to the wall. Horses for courses re: radiator underneath it. You don't notice that window, so I don't mind.

I'm very pleased I managed to sort it. PHEW. Thanks all.
