Which lightbulb is good for a living room?

My current lightbulb produces a rather glaring, unflattering white light. I think a yellowish light would feel cosier and probably be more flattering! Does anyone have recommendations for what type and wattage of lightbulb to go for, please? (The room is a bit more than 4 x 5m.)

What sort of light fitting? Is it a floor lamp or a ceiling light?

It’s a ceiling light with a bayonet fitting.

Yes, it’s just a standard sized bulb. I don’t yet have a light shade. There are so many different types of lightbulbs, I’m not sure what to go for!
