Super king size bed

I crave a super king size bed. However we have quite a small bedroom and it would take up most of the space. OH is a very restless sleeper and it’s exhausting.
How big is your bedroom if you have one and what type of mattress and bed do you have?

We currently have a king but are looking to upgrade to the super king in our new house as I sleep very poorly with my health issues. Reading all these replies have confirmed the new breed is a necessity rather than a luxury!

I'd get one now but our bedroom is so tiny we wouldn't be able to fit it in. I can't wait to move!

Wow! So many great ideas here. Lots of mattress makes I have never heard of too!

We got our superking from happybeds, they're really affordable and you can customise it to be exactly what you want: www.happybeds.co.uk/build-your-own-bed

We love it!

We’ve just moved but beforehand our bedroom was very small, we could just about wedge a bedside table in each side with our super king in there but I wouldn’t change it. DH is very tall so we need a bed with no footboard, which worked well as we bought a divan which also saves on having extra space taken up by a bed frame. We bought a new mattress last year as I had such a bad back (and thank god we did as it got much worse in pregnancy). We went to John Lewis and tried out lots of mattresses, which felt very odd in the middle of a shop, especially as I sleep on my
front and the salesman told us to spend at least ten minutes lying on each one Grin I was a bit dismayed to find out that the one I liked best was £3000. But we looked on eBay and found the exact one, ex display I think, for less than half that, with delivery included. And I LOVE it. Zip link mattresses mean I don’t get dh waking me up with his restless sleeping, and made moving it so much easier, we’d not have been able to get a single super king mattress up the stairs in our new house. Like a pp, I’m now eyeing up emperor size, now we’re co sleeping with the baby. I think if it wasn’t for the fact we’ve only just replaced the mattress I’d take the plunge. Only bad thing about having a big bed is that whenever we go away, however nice the place is we always feel a bit squashed in and can’t wait to get back to our own bed!

Oh we have one and it takes up most of the bedroom but we can walk around bed and open and close wardrobes. It is honestly the best bed ever, so comfortable and we can both spread eagle. I love it

Awkward which mattress is it please?
I want the Tokyo bed from Oakfurnitureland as we slept on this bed on holiday and I loved it. Unfortunately it has a wooden surround which I am not sure is ideal. I have had mattresses in the past which have been no good and finally bought one I like a few years ago for our Kingsize bed. I am worried about choosing another one in case I have to live with it for years and it is no good. I wonder if I should try one which I can return if I don’t like it.

We have a super king 'sleigh' bed with an Eve mattress.
I KNOW everyone loves them, but I would go back to a king size in a heartbeat.
DH and I both reach out in the middle of the night just to check the other one is there. I miss the snuggliness of a smaller bed.

It’s the John Lewis natural collection angora 14000. All of the John Lewis mattresses seemed really lovely tbh, but this one was noticeably nicer than the next cheapest and I stopped trying them after this as I just couldn’t face lying on one that cost £6000 and setting my heart on it! We’ve had it about 14 months now, and it’s still as good as new, no sagging or uncomfortable bits.

Both the nectar and the Emma have offers on this week.

We've got a Superking with an oversized headboard and matching base - DH had it made at work, and it's covered in velvet. It's in proportion though as the bedroom is around 20ft x 18 ft. We would be divorced without it, as DH has got restless legs. I still end up on the sofa far more than I'd like, but when we've been on holiday in a smaller bed, we literally can't share a bed!

Our mattress is a MiBed, from Furmanac but we did get it trade price as we run our own business. It's well sprung with a memory foam upper layer, and it's like sleeping on a cloud. I recently bought an Octaspring for the grandkids room and that's lovely too.

@kids how do I get a discount code please?

I have one just for me! It's gorgeous and I have redesigned my whole room around it in gorgeous linens, metals and velvets. Best thing I've bought in years. Buy it but make sure it will go up your stairs if not zip and link...

PrimeraVez · 04/06/2019 05:58

We have an Emperor bed (size up from Superking I think) and I love it. If you are going to chose a bed that takes up a lot of the room, then I think the bed has to look amazing and like it’s worthy of being the centre piece of the space. So lovely linen, a great headboard or frame etc.

We had a big headboard made to go with ours and I love it. Our bedroom is quite big but the bed is still very much the focal point.

legolimb · 04/06/2019 09:21

Moved house with a much larger bedroom - so treated ourselves to a superking. I love it so much. I like to spread out to sleep - DH likes to snuggle up but I push him away after ten mins. Grin

BogglesGoggles · 04/06/2019 09:23

We have a king size bed, not a super king (wouldntgot where we wanted). Its too small. Definitely get a super king if you can fit it in.

LoafofSellotape · 04/06/2019 09:25

Get one!!! We have 2 single duvets on ours with a big superking bedspread so it looks neat when it's made.

HelenCurrier · 04/06/2019 15:52

Despite having a small room, most people recommend the largest bed possible, especially if there's two of you.
If you're looking for a new one (and one with storage to still make the most of the space you have) try Arista Living (dot com).
We got a super king size bed from there recently, ottoman style and they've usually got some discounts on if you check their 'tagged in' posts on Instagram.

bouncydog · 09/06/2019 20:48

We’ve had superking for 40 years and would never go back tosmaller beds now! We have Hypnos bases linked together with drawers and a very tall headboard. Two zip and link mattresses with different tensions as i’m 5” 2” and 8 stone 4 and Oh is 6’ and 14 stone! We have 600 - 800 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and duvet and pillows from the wool room. Pure luxury - and everything bought in sales so cost wasn’t too eye watering!

RandomMess · 09/06/2019 20:58

We got to Ikea singles that attach together so are 180cm between a king and super king!! Single mattresses with memory foam topper absolutely brilliant.
