Getting new sofas and have chosen the Ikea Vilme which really like in the mid-grey but since its textile, fear it will easily mark due to absent-minded/clumsy DH habitually leaving mugs/glasses of whatever he's been drinking propped up against the cushions on our current sofas with liquid still in. Had the discussion that this is dangerous and also when the liquid has spilled out my cushions have stained and although I've washed the covers, the seats still smell - but as I said, absent-minded, so he forgets to move the stupid mugs/glasses. Also have DDog. There is a leather version of the Vimle in dark brown.

Textile would feel nicer, I think, and also when head back on the headrest, less likely to cause sweating, but leather has the advantage of being able to just wipe it down and more likely to cause sweating when using headrest.

Anyone already trodden this path before me who can offer advice?

I have leather in the family room and fabric in the front room but you know your issue is not one of sofas don’t you? Why is a grown man using a sofa as a drinks table?! You shouldn’t have to plan your sofa choice around this! It’s absent-minded to leave your drink on the side table instead of taking it to the kitchen; leaving it ON THE SOFA is something else! But if you are having to work around this, I find that fabric with a bit of a nap / texture eg chenille or velvet is best because they don’t look completely uniform so the odd spill doesn’t show. Also if you get one without a high back you shouldn’t have any issue with sweaty heads. Good luck!
