Matt vs eggshell

I'm going to start decorating my sitting room this weekend and am unsure which paint to buy. I'm ok with colour but it's type.

Room was rewired and replastered in December. Since then it's had a mist coat then a coat of plain white while I decided on colour. So the walls are in good condition.

Do I go for matt or eggshell finish? I think matt but a friend swears by eggshell. Last thing I want is shiny walls though..

Going for latte (beige) on all walls with a sage green on chimney breast. Sofa is mid brown. Cushions and curtains are cream, beige and green. Carpet is neutral. Rug is dark brown. It's a 1960s bungalow so room is big.

What do you think?

Personally I wouldn't put eggshell on walls, I think it's more for woodwork like the skirting etc but that's just me x

Eggshell us best on woodwork as the previous poster says.
I would go for durable matt emulsion for the walls, definitely.

Same as OPs. We used to use soft sheen on walls because matt rubbed off and was impossible to wipe clean properly, but advances in paint technology have happened and we've moved over to matt with the Dulux durable range.

Tch. Confusingly I meant Other Posters when I should have used PP. Oh, acronyms!

I've just had the house decorated and the bloke said 99% of his work is matte these days. We had a scrubbable paint and it's fab as we've already spilled something down the walls and it wiped off beautifully.

That's great thanks all. I've gone for durable matt and it's starting to look fab!

Matt, aaa eggshell is for kitchen cupboards and is usually gloss based. Even if she actually meant Matt or silk, I would still say Matt.
