Pre-teen bedroom - ideas please

My 2 boys have always shared their room but this summer we are going to move the 11 year old to his own room, before he starts secondary school.
His room will be 4 metres by 3 metres and I am looking for nice ideas, especially the bed (I would like to avoid ikea).

Does anyone have any good ideas to share?

@questionsneverstop I have 2 sons, their beds are storage beds that lift up with matching headboards in a dark grey material, good quality mattress as 5 years saw Ds1 aged 11 (now 16) grow from being under my chin (i'm 5ft 4) to 5ft 10.

I always start with a duvet cover and pick accent colours from that. Ds1 has a multi-coloured striped one and I did 3 walls in one colour and then I horizontal striped one wall with the main colour and 3 accent colours again picked from the duvet cover. The stripes are varying thicknesses for every one of them, I drafted it up on paper to see how wide to make the stripes. I used frog masking tape which you remove whilst the paint is still wet.

Due to staring secondary school I bought wooden magazine files from Ikea (sorry) and painted them with the same colours I'd used on the walls. So he has a file for each day of the week and his books get put into the next day they are needed. HTH

Where did you get the beds from?

I bought DS a storage bed from Dunelm and the mattress from Costco. Seems good so far and there is masses of storage in it.

Just be aware that when he starts secondary school he will change massively. So even if he likes things now, this time next year he will be mortified that he ever liked those things IYSWIM.

In other words, don't choose anything too themed or too young. Maybe let him choose colours and go from there.

DS age 11 has a double divan. It's for tartan brushed cotton bedcovers. The main colour is drawing room blue.

Totally get wanting to avoid Ikea, have you browsed Arista Living? You can pick different sizes, storage styles, headboards, fabrics etc so you get a personalised bed - I'm sure your boys would love to help you choose what they want!
