Do I take the plunge with patterned tiles and if so, are these too twee?

Decision overload here and I’m not sure I have the energy to think any more!!

Looking at doing our ensuite but not sure if Instagram has been a negative influence or not!!

What do you reckon to this combination? Blue patterned on the floor with matt white flat metro on the wall- is it too feminine? I’m thinking of grey walls and we’re having a vanity unit made from reclaimed scaffold boards so I’m not keen on an ultra modern style but not sure whether this would look too much in a bog standard 1980s house!?!

I love the floor tiles and it'd be fine in any bathroom. I'm not sure about metro tiles to go with them though.

Killerqueen2244 · 06/05/2019 17:56

Thanks for your opinion, i guess I’ve looked at the metro tiles cause I’m so used to seeing them (that’s why I’m wondering whether I’ve spent too long on instagram!).

Maybe I’ll have a look at larger rectangle tiles and see if they’ll look a little better!

I'm in tile overdrive at the moment with planning our bathroom revamp but it's all good problems to have! I love those tiles, would look lovely in a bathroom. How much floorspace would they cover?

Killerqueen2244 · 06/05/2019 20:18

Thanks @disneyprincess87 I guess cause it’s one of so many decisions I have to make fairly soon I’m overthinking everything rather than enjoying the creative process!

I hope the pic of the space has uploaded, I think it 3 metres x 1.5 metres so lends itself to a smaller designs on tiles? Because of the wooden vanity unit (we’re planning on building!!) I didn’t think the wooden style tiles on the floor would suit!?!

We've just done a new bathroom and I think your ideas are great. Not twee at all.

Spinnaret · 06/05/2019 20:33

I have patterned tiles, but they are on the wall, with a Matt grey floor tile. I did not do the whole wall though as it would be a bit much.

I've only got a small bathroom to remodel but I know the times I've put a bath mat on the floor youll hardly be able to see any of my patterned tiles 😂

starfishmummy · 06/05/2019 21:57

I like them but how many part tiles would there be as that could spoil the effect?

Killerqueen2244 · 06/05/2019 23:03

Good point @starfishmummy I’ll have to get the tape measure out. The lady in the tile shop said to stay away from large designs on tiles for that reason!

@spinnaret I love your tile design, makes the most of that wall without being overbearing. I bet you’re chuffed with that every time you walk into the room!

@disneyprincess87 oh gaaawd I didn’t even think that I’d have to coordinate my bath mat with my tiles haha!! What colour scheme have you decided on in the end?

Mamaslave18 · 06/05/2019 23:04

I have those tiles in grey on my bathroom floor and white metro tiles in my walk in shower. Everyone says it looks great.

Killerqueen2244 · 06/05/2019 23:05

Oh thank you @Ivegotthree, what colour scheme did you go for in the end? My husband just wants plain and simple that never goes out of fashion and therefore never needs replacing....! I want to do something a little different but not too crazy, not too on trend and not too like I lost confidence in my colour scheme half way though and played it safe. I’m really overthinking this aren’t I!?! Grin

Killerqueen2244 · 06/05/2019 23:09

@Mamaslave18 oh I’m glad you’ve said that! I did think about the grey on the floor then a very pale blue/grey paint above the white tiles but then I saw these blue ones and thought maybe doing the colour scheme the other way round just to be, err, different! Did you grout in white or a different colour?

Those are lovely OP, good choice!

Mamaslave18 · 07/05/2019 04:22

We used grey grout as I find white just gets grubby looking.

Movinghouseatlast · 07/05/2019 13:04

That is exactly what I want in my ensuite! Where are the tiles from?

Dillydallyontheway · 07/05/2019 13:10

We recently had our bathroom done and we have these floor tiles with grey grouting. They look stunning. The rest of the room is white tiles and we have a claw footed bath and walk in shower. We nearly went for plain grey tiles but so so pleased we chose these instead.

Greenvalleymama · 08/05/2019 20:48

I think they look great, and they'll go nicely with metro tiles. Not too 'out there' at all. I think once they're down they'll look very classy, especially with the hand built vanity unit.

Killerqueen2244 · 08/05/2019 23:27

Oh all your positive comments have cheered me up! My husband wants simple hotel/new build (boring!) look so that it never needs redoing....Hmm but I’d like a little bit of personality in there!

@Dillydallyontheway I bet your room looks amazing with these tiles!

@Movinghouseatlast these tiles are from Mandarin Stone. They’re the only company that I’ve seen so far that do this design in blue. A lot of online companies do this in grey/black

Love these!! We’ve just had a batch of samples arrive from Claybrook for similar patterns in blue (pic attached). My plan is to do a shower alcove in them with white/pale grey for the rest but love the idea of them on the floor.

CRbear · 09/05/2019 20:02

I’ve used them or very similar. I think it looks traditional rather than feminine and I’m really chuffed with the finished product. Had a lot of compliments too.

We did similar in our small en-suite 2 years ago and I still absolutely love it. We have Ikea furniture and F&B oval room blue on the walls. I am delighted with the flooring

What a good idea @WorrisomeHeart! I love those top 3 on the right hand side. I hope you manage to make a decision without too many headaches!

@CRBear and @Tootyfilou thank you for sharing your bathrooms, they are both beautiful, it’s really helpful to see real life examples as it makes it easier to imagine what my room might look like!
